For the past few months I have been getting extremely good at the "side hug". Hugging is a must when I see someone I know, or a future client. For some, it is awkward to hug and be in someone's "personal space", but for Mark and I we have always been huggers (call us awkward if you must). The hand shake is so 1983 and the wave with the half smile is so rude, so hugging should be a no brainer when you see a friendly face. So over the past pregnancy months Wyatt (the baby in my belly) has made the hug quite troublesome. Ever since my belly has grown past the stage of a "beer belly", I have had to do a little bit of practice to get my hug down. The strategy is to not bump into someone before your arms link over the other persons shoulders. So what I do is simple give the "one arm over the shoulder" hug and call it a day. Mark finds this really funny and some times embarrassing (for me).... But this is not as awkward as a friend of ours (who shall remain nameless). She hugs with her butt out and three feet of space to spare in between her and the receiver as a "courtesy" to the hug-e, as to not invade personal space. You need to make sure that you get a little cozy with the person you are hugging in any situation. If you cant do that, then please resort to the lame 1983 handshake. Well now that that random rant is over... here is our awesome clients.
Melisa and David. Melisa and David are those type of clients, like most of our clients, that we would likely be close friends with even if we were not their wedding photographers. David is a Marketing/Business strategy guy , and Melisa is AMAZING, and such a talented school teacher!!! We started in down town San Juan Capistrano and by the end of the night we were at the La Mirada swap-meet eating hotdogs and buying ME tons of trinkets and other shenanigans you would buy at a swap-meet! Here are some of our favorites from the super fun session!

Add Your Comment! So, I too am a “side hugger.” At the camp I worked at, they went through a year where they decided regular hugs (between campers and counselors) went past the “good touch/bad touch” line so they were banned. As a result, the side hug emerged. And yes, I used the camp heat press to make a shirt that says “Side Hugger” on the side, why do you ask?

Great images. I also love to hug people. it seems so much more personal but I never know what the other person is thinking of me so I rather stay at the handshake thing when meeting a new client.

[...] few months ago. We immediately knew we were going to be good friends with them when we hung out ALL night after their e-session. We drank beer, got swap meet food, and shopped until 11:30 at night. It was the most random night, [...]

I’m a hugger too. Always have been, always will be. It’s funny when the huggee isn’t a hugger though and tries to hold me at arm’s length when I’m already pressed up against them and snuggling. LOL!! My uncle is one of these people. He tries ‘cos he loves me though. ha!
